We collected data on a range of descriptive aspects of the global health public-private partnerships in the dataset.

Key Findings

  • Most partnerships have their headquarters in Switzerland and the United States.

  • Only seven partnerships are headquartered outside the Americas and Europe.

  • Most (63%) partnerships are hosted by another organization, usually an international organization.

  • The WHO is the most common host organization for global health public-private partnerships.

  • Non-communicable diseases are neglected by public-private partnerships.

Most public-private partnerships have their headquarters in Switzerland and the United States. Only 5 partnerships are headquartered outside the Americas and Europe.

Organizational Status

Most public-private partnerships are hosted by other organizations. The most common hosts are international organizations followed by non-profits or foundations. The World Health Organization hosts the most number of hosted partnerships.

Targeting Health Issues

Most public-private partnerships focus on infectious diseases and medical technologies. The next most common topics addressed are nutrition and health systems and research. Despite the large burden of non-communicable diseases, only two partnerships make this their focus.

Tracking Partnership Functions

What do public-private partnerships do in global health governance? The most common purpose of partnerships is to convene partners for knowledge creation and exchange. Financing or fundraising and product development or market shaping are the next most common functions. By far, monitoring and service provision are the least common work done by partnerships.
